The Surf
The Atlantic coast of France is famed for miles of endless beaches, consistent surf and long summer days. All good reasons for us to organise a group surf trip to this great destination. Our chosen location in France is Lacanau, situated west of Bordeaux and known as one of Europe’s finest beach breaks. All ability levels are welcome as the beach offers a variety of conditions. Air temperatures range from 18 to 24°C and water temperature should be 17 to 21°C(70°F)… summer wetsuits and boardshorts required. We have carefully planned our holiday to take advantage of cheap flights with budget airlines and staying Friday to Friday allows for 8 days of surfing. Surf South West’s senior instructors will be on hand to offer a daily coaching programme based on your personal ability level including video coaching. Surfboard and wetsuit hire is available locally (at extra cost) if you do not have your own equipment.
The Location
Lacanau is easily accessible from the UK with a 1½ hour flight to Bordeaux. Located in balmy south west France, the town is host to the annual Lacanau Pro surf contest and we are visiting the town outside of the peak season to ensure uncrowded waves and good weather. The town has a number of surf shops as well as plenty of bars and restaurants for some lively apres-surf.
The Accommodation
We are staying in a spacious holiday park nestled among a pine forest with private beach access a pleasant 5 minute walk through the dunes. The waves in front of the park are generally uncrowded with many peaks to choose from and the town centre is a fifteen minute walk away. The first accommodation option is staying in a timber cabin among the pines. The cabins are fully self contained with two bedrooms, kitchen, lounge/diner, bathroom and sundeck and are allocated on a one, two or three share basis. If you are travelling alone, as many of our guests do, we will team you up with one other guest of the same sex to share a cabin (please refer to 2 share cost). The second option is camping, simply bring your own tent (or campervan) and pitch it among the spacious grounds. The park has a swimming pool, tennis court, supermarket, bar and restaurant on site but due to sympathetic development it does not have the atmosphere of a large, commercial holiday park.
Other Activities
Mountain biking - great trails through the forest, bike hire available onsite. Tennis - on site court. Beach Volleyball – onsite court. Table-tennis onsite. Windsurfing – lake nearby. Fishing – lake nearby. Wine tasting – famous vineyards nearby.

The Flights
Our recommended flights are with Easyjet from Luton or Bristol. You are free to find an alternative flight but please note that if it arrives or departs at different times you may have to pay for your own transfers to and from Bordeaux and Lacanau. Our arranged transfer is convenient for the following three flights:

Please note there is a charge of £17 each way for surfboard carriage that can be pre-paid at the time of booking.
Easyjet also offer the opportunity to offset the carbon emitted from your flight through UN certified Emission Reduction projects. It only adds a few pounds to the overall cost and we recommend taking advantage of this option when booking online.

Surf South West do not book flights, however we can assist you in obtaining good prices from Robinson Travel, a retail agent for an ATOL holder. We will negotiate the provisional arrangements for your flights that are appropriate to your itinerary and then put you in touch direct with Robinson Travel for you to pay and book your flights. In return Robinson Travel will confirm your flight times and invoice you separately. Please note that we do not take payment for flights ourselves, however by ensuring that you are booking with a retail agent for an ATOL holder you can be assured that your flights are financially protected under an ATOL licence.
