Surfing school on crest of wave
The surfing mecca of Croyde has been officially recognised as a centre of top quality teaching. Surf South West, based at Croyde Bay, has just been awarded the highest accolade by the British Surfing Association.
The School, which has been running for nine years, was the first surf school in Britain to be awarded BSA level four status and surf school owner Darren Burrett is delighted. He said: “Level four in the highest level attainable and is awarded following a thorough assessment of a surf school’s standards of coaching, qualifications and professionalism. “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the sport’s governing body."
The school has two full time instructors and six seasonal staff who are all qualified life guards and members of Sports Coach UK. The award means the school is recognised as an elite training centre as well as offering high quality teaching for absolute beginners.
The BSA has initiated the award due to the growing popularity of the sport and has now implemented the rating system for surf schools and their instructors and coaching programmes.
